The Odyssey had captured an Aldorian pilot during the nebula battle. He was young, barely out of training, and his eyes held a mixture of fear and defiance. Captain Elara Vance entered the holding cell, her expression calm but probing.

"Your name?" she asked.

The pilot remained silent.

"I'm not here to torture you," Elara said. "I want to understand why you're fighting."

The pilot finally spoke, his voice low. "You Earth people destroyed our colony. You left us to die."

Elara frowned. "We've never attacked a civilian colony."

"Then why are we at war?"

She sat down across from him. "I don't know. But I intend to find out."

She had her crew investigate, and they discovered the truth-a rogue faction of the Aldorian military had staged the attack, framing the Earth Fleet to fuel the war.

"We have to stop them," Elara said.

She released the pilot and offered him a choice: return to his people and help expose the truth, or stay on the Odyssey as a prisoner of war.

He chose to help.

The pilot returned to his people, carrying evidence of the conspiracy. The Aldorian government, shocked by the revelation, called for a ceasefire.

Elara stood on the bridge, watching the stars.

"We've bought ourselves a chance for peace," she said. "Now we have to make it last."

The conflict was far from over, but she had taken the first step toward ending it. And she would not stop until peace was won. The End.

The village was small, nestled in a valley, surrounded by hills. Lena drove slowly, Alex beside her, their eyes scanning the streets. They had come to find the place where her grandfather had been wounded-the place where he had almost died.

"According to the records," Alex said, "it was here. A small crossroads. His unit was ambushed."

They parked the car, walked to the crossroads. The fields were green, the trees tall, the houses quiet. It was hard to imagine the chaos, the gunfire, the blood.

"He was hit in the leg," Lena said. "He lay in a ditch for two days before they found him."

Alex put his hand on her shoulder. "He survived."

"He did. But he never walked without a limp."

They stood in silence, the wind blowing, the birds singing. An old man approached, leaning on a cane, his eyes sharp.

"You are looking for the war," he said.

Lena nodded. "My grandfather was wounded here."

The old man pointed to a ditch by the side of the road. "There. I found him. I was a boy. I dragged him into the barn. Hid him from the Germans."

Lena's breath caught. "You saved his life."

The old man shrugged. "I did what anyone would do."

They walked to the barn, still standing, its walls scarred by time. The old man showed them where her grandfather had hidden, where he had bled, where he had hoped.

"He talked about you," the old man said. "His daughter. He said you had his eyes."

Lena touched the wall, felt the rough wood, the history.

"Thank you," she whispered.

The old man nodded, walked away, his cane tapping on the ground.

Lena stood in the barn, Alex beside her, the past pressing close.

"He was here," she said. "Alive. Scared. Hoping."

Alex took her hand. "And now you are too."

They walked back to the car, drove away, the village fading behind them. The past was everywhere-in the crossroads, in the barn, in the hearts of those who remembered.

And Lena would carry it with her, always.
